Details
Historical / expanded roster
The entries below summarize an earlier, larger campaign cast and are kept for reference. The current player characters are Archer, Pedro, Stanislaw, and Mikael (see Current Characters above); names like Birger, Greg, and Johnny are not part of the present party.
John ≠ Johnny. They are two different people: Johnny is John “Johnny” Johnson, a former party member (driver/engineer) who left to find his way back to America; John is Pedro’s companion (not a party member) who left Lodz with the group and is central to Pedro’s moral arc. See John’s entry under Locals & Other Encounters.
The Primary Unit (Earlier / Expanded Cast)
The logs detail the daily activities, stress, and combat roles of the main group operating the APC and traveling through Poland.
- Archer: A scout and hunter for the group, frequently tasked with foraging for food (deer, bear, moose) and reconnaissance. He is prone to taking stress and even contracted rabies (though notably “not infected”) during a dog attack.
- Birger: A tech and intelligence specialist who acted as the group’s “face.” He often handled radio communications, infiltration, and bartering. He has a complicated past involving a friend named Edward Field (Arkady), and he is the one who kills the mercenary leader Leopold. Current status: MIA — captured fleeing Lodz and presumed in Russian custody alongside Piotr. He still carries the group’s Soviet encryption device (the counterpart to the recovered Zip drive).
- Greg: Acts as the medical specialist and negotiator. He treats refugees and party members, contracting cholera in the process. He is also involved in bartering and intel gathering regarding the “Red Sea.” Current status: left the party at Piotrkow Trybunalski — captured trying to slip into the city, he did not rejoin the group.
- Johnny: Full name: John “Johnny” Johnson. A driver and engineer who focused on establishing base defenses (building towers, chicken pens) and repairing vehicles, specifically the APC. Current status: a former party member — he believed a radio communication and left to attempt to find his way back to America. (A distinct person from John, Pedro’s companion — see Locals & Other Encounters.)
- Mik: A marksman/sniper. He is noted for a romance/courting ritual with an NPC named Galina, demonstrating his marksmanship to impress her. Hidden allegiance: Mik was in fact a KGB agent, inserted to help steer the party toward Radom and the recovery of the zip drive — which is how he came to join them in the first place, coming to their defense in the fighting outside Lodz (May 31). When Zofia moved to seize the recovered drive on June 7, 2000, he turned on his own side: he sided with the party and kept the drive out of KGB hands rather than handing it over. His current Big Dream — to help restore the world using the info on the disk — follows from that turn.
- Pedro: An infiltrator skilled in stealth. He is recorded sneaking into rooms, gathering intel, and finding hidden weapons. He joined late in this arc (May 31) as part of Mike Riley’s crew, smuggled out of Lodz alongside his companion John; he is one of the present player characters (see Current Characters above).
- Stanislaw: A technician and mechanic often tasked with “making the tank suck” (sabotage or repair), driving trucks, and using tech skills to scan for GLONASS signals.
- Piotr: A Polish nobleman who traveled with the group. While he is the father of the kidnapped child Tytus, the logs show him actively participating in daily tasks like driving, keeping watch, and combat — such as ramming the gate during the assault on his own estate. Current status: captured fleeing Lodz and presumed in Russian custody alongside Birger.
The “American” Unit (NPC Allies)
These soldiers appear to be a specific squad allied with the main group, often referred to in the 2023 logs.
- Reece Wilson: The commander of this allied unit.
- Ashton Fraser: A special-ops soldier.
- Anders Hodges: A support soldier who was injured (“down”) and spent time hiding in the wilderness.
The Liptak Plotline
Characters revolving around the kidnapping and recovery mission in Ozerkow.
- Piotr Liptak: The Polish nobleman mentioned above. The group helps him recover his son to break the leverage the GRU holds over him.
- Tytus Liptak: Piotr’s kidnapped son, held by mercenaries and later the GRU to control his father. He was rescued during the estate assault.
- Anatol Budz: A communications officer for Piotr Liptak who betrays the group. He works for the GRU and sets up a trap during a meeting.
- Edward Field (Arkady Novotny): A former friend of Birger who turned traitor. He captures Birger at one point but is eventually hunted down and killed by the group with a grenade.
Antagonists & Hostiles
- Leopold Rogalski: A mercenary leader working for the GRU. He orchestrates Tytus’s kidnapping. He escaped an early roadblock clash after Birger stabbed him, but Birger stabbed and killed him when the party ran the mercenaries’ camp to ground (a separate event from the later killing of Arkady at the estate assault).
- Hubert Topa: Leopold’s second-in-command.
- Michał Jagłowski: A figure encountered at a roadblock alongside Leopold.
- Zakharov: A high-level KGB antagonist suspected of being behind radiation poisoning in a village and tracking the group via GLONASS signals.
- Zofia: A KGB agent who confronts Birger. Unlike other hostilities, this interaction is described as “friendly,” and she discusses plans to extract soldiers. She and Mik were on the same KGB operation around the zip drive; when she moved to seize the recovered drive on June 7, 2000, Mik turned on her and sided with the party. She was captured that night and slipped away under Pedro’s watch on June 8 — but the drive stayed with the party.
Locals & Other Encounters
- John: A companion of Pedro who left Lodz with him and the party — not a party member. He and Pedro came out of Lodz with Mike Riley’s crew (May 31). Pedro got him to the safe haven, then abandoned him (the heart of Pedro’s current Moral Code & Big Dream, above). He worked the potato fields on June 5, 2000. A distinct person from Johnny (John “Johnny” Johnson).
- Elijah: An escaped slave from a marauder camp who provides the group with intel on the “Red Sea” area.
- Galina: A local woman living in a safe haven. She approves of Mik’s marksmanship and invites him to find her later.
- The Brothers (Mikołaj and Jan Borkowski): Locals running a distillery. They are somewhat hostile, telling Stanislaw off when he looks for a job.
- Kascper: A suspicious individual in the safe haven. Pedro investigates his room and finds a hidden M9 pistol.
- Mike Riley: An American sergeant encountered by the group (May 31). The notes cryptically associate him with “cannibals?” but note that rapport was established. His crew — Pedro and John — had been smuggled out of Lodz; Riley himself was killed in the June 2 tank action, after which Pedro and John continued on with the party.
- Wanda: An elderly woman living above a bar encountered by the group.
- Arnold Żarek: A Polish civilian whose house was burnt down, leading to a tense encounter with the group.
